  • Phone number (required for account creation and OTP-based authentication)
  • Display name (optional)
  • Avatar image (optional)
  • Household information you choose to share (household name, member nicknames, roles)

Dietary and Preference Data

To personalize your experience, we collect:

  • Diet preference (vegetarian, egg, or non-vegetarian)
  • Household size
  • Dietary restrictions (e.g., no onion, no garlic, gluten-free, no dairy, less spicy)
  • Language preference for recipes (Hindi, English, or Hinglish)

Usage Information

We collect information about how you use the app:

  • Device identifier (a unique ID generated for your device)
  • Meal plans and saved recipes
  • Meal reactions and comments shared within your household
  • Recipe search and filter queries within the app
  • Session information (login timestamps)

Audio Data

With your permission, the app may access your device microphone for:

  • Voice notes on meal plans
  • Voice-guided cooking features

Audio data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly share a voice note within your household.

Information We Do Not Collect

Gokun does not collect the following:

  • Location or GPS data
  • Contacts or address book information
  • Payment or financial information (the app is entirely free with no in-app purchases)
  • Email address (not required for account creation)
  • Browsing history outside the app

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Authenticate your identity via phone number and OTP
  • Personalize your meal and recipe recommendations based on dietary preferences
  • Enable household sharing features (meal plans, reactions, comments, saved recipes)
  • Track recipe variety to help you avoid repetitive meals
  • Improve our app and develop new features
  • Ensure security and prevent unauthorized access

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Household members: If you join or create a household, your display name, dietary preferences, meal plans, reactions, comments, and saved recipes are visible to other household members.
  • Service providers: We use the following third-party services to operate the app:
    • Supabase (database hosting and authentication infrastructure)
    • Message Central (OTP delivery via SMS and WhatsApp)
    • Vercel (website hosting)
  • Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights.

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information:

  • Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
  • Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage
  • Session tokens expire after 7 days and must be refreshed
  • Database access is protected by row-level security policies

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information stored in the app
  • Correct inaccurate data (update your profile, preferences, and household information directly in the app)
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Leave a household at any time, removing your association with that household's shared data

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for service improvement.

Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete that information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
